Dear MCWA members:

On behalf of 2008/2009 Board, I would like to welcome you to our new World Wide Web site.

Our Board has adopted the 21st Century Communication Tools: “E-mail and Website” to promote MCWA and its activities.  We have been reconnecting with old members, as well as, recruiting new members. As we speak, there are about 160 members on our e-mail list.  Since September, we have been sending out activity announcements via e-mails.  In addition, “Quarterly Newsletter” will be sent out at the end of December.

Our Website of “micwa.org” is functional now, but, is still under construction/expansion.  You can view the current contents by clicking the tabs.  We will have photo gallery very soon.  Also we want to maintain this as MCWA’s permanent website so that members can acquire useful activity information.

We believed that the primary mission of MCWA is “COMMUNITY SERVICES”.  MCWA is well known to host Evergreen seniors luncheons for many years, and we are continuing this activity.  A joint American and Chinese seniors luncheon will be held at a local nursing home in March, 2009.  You may know, our new initiative of “Cook for Homeless” had its first successful operation on 11/30. We appreciated that 22 MCWA members, HS students, and Board members participated in the first “cook for homeless”.  Also, we apologize to those who did not get a volunteer slot for this event.   Please sign on early for next activities.  These are superb opportunities to help our American community with Chinese heritage of generosity and caring.  We want to see MCWA name shining in a larger community.

We have enhanced Women’s Program based on the suggestions from our members.  There are two combined MCWA/Evergreen luncheons: one in November, and another a June picnic, and we are glad that many MCWA members/friends participated the Nov. event.  Also, the 11/8 “Cooking Demo & Afternoon Tea” event had 64 participants, and received positive feedback.  We felt really encouraged.  In addition, we have scheduled one Chinese New Year family party, and three women’s seminars.

On March 21, 2009, MCWA will co-sponsor the International Women’s Day celebration in Michigan with six other Asian organizations.  We are excited about this opportunity.  You are invited to join us, and details will be sent out later.

September 19, 2009 is scheduled for Michigan Night/ Annual Meeting.  Please mark your calendar.

“Donation Drive” is the only funding source for MCWA activities since MCWA does not collect membership dues.  For non-profit volunteer organizations, effective fundraising is generally conducted early so that the Board can plan activity and budget accordingly. You will be reminded with our quarterly newsletters that your financial contribution is tax deductible.

Last, but not least, we have a team of “Talented and Dedicated Board Members” to serve MCWA and its members via creative planning and economic implementation.

I wish you all have HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!

Yee-Ho Chia

MCWA President, 2008-2009
